SAJE Income Supports

Young adults with care experience may be eligible to receive Unconditional Income Support of up to $1,250 per month from age 19 to 20 to assist with living expenses and improve financial stability. This monthly assistance can be maintained up until age 27 through Conditional Income Support if the young adult is enrolled in one or a combination of post-secondary, vocational, life-skills, rehabilitative or cultural programming..

Unconditional Income Supports

Unconditional Income Support (UIS) is available to eligible young adults with no requirement to participate in programming for up to 12 months (between a young person’s 19th and 20th birthday).

Conditional Income Supports

Conditional Income Support (CIS) helps young adults with the costs of living while they participate in a post-secondary educational program; or a vocational training program; or attend a cultural program; rehabilitation program; a life-skills program or a combination of these programs, until their 27th birthday.

While on a Conditional Income Support agreement (CIS), program participation is required.

How Can I Apply for SAJE Supports?

  1. Plan as much and as often or as long as you want. Use this Quest to save Resources and write Notes about how you might want to use them.
  2. Confirm Eligibility: If you haven’t done so already, confirm you are eligible to apply by filling out the SAJE Eligibility Check Form.
  3. Apply: Once you are ready, there are two options for applying:
    1. SAJE has an online portal where you can apply for benefits. To get started you need a BC Services Card Login or Basic BCeID Login. Apply Online
    2. Book an appointment with the SAJE Guide that was assigned to you when you confirmed eligibility. Either call or email to make an appointment. Make sure you bring valid ID. You can log in to show your plan or copy the saved pages from your Dashboard to email the list.

Indigenous Child and Family Service Agencies (ICFSAs) may also have dedicated workers to assist Indigenous youth with planning for their transition to adulthood and accessing the SAJE program. Click here to find a ICFSA near you.
