Belonging Network (Agedout) Bursary Application Form

Bursary Information: This application form is for the following two bursaries available through the Belonging Network:

The Vancouver Film Studios Indigenous Bursary Program
This bursary was established in 2022 in partnership with Vancouver Film Studios. It provides financial assistance to Indigenous people who plan to pursue any kind of formal or informal career-related education or training in British Columbia. This includes, but is not limited to: post-secondary education, short or long certification programs, diplomas, skill-building programs and training programs. There is $12,000 of funding to be distributed. Bursary amounts vary depending on applicant needs. The maximum amount awarded to one applicant is $3,000. Eligibility requirements are:

  • You are currently a BC resident.
  • You identify as an Indigenous person.

The Joy MacPhail Youth Bursary:
This bursary provides financial support for post-secondary studies to a young person who joined their family by legal adoption or other forms of permanency. It was established in 2022 with funding from the Face the World Foundation. One $3,000 bursary will be awarded this year. Eligibility requirements are:

  • You are currently a BC resident.
  • You are a youth who has joined their family by legal adoption or another form of permanency.
  • You are between the ages of 17 and 26 by the date of the application deadline.
  • You are registered, or plan to be registered, in a post-secondary program at an accredited BC institution resulting in a degree or diploma.

NOTES:

  • You can apply for one or both using one application.
  • You are eligible to apply for these bursaries even if you are currently receiving funding from the Provincial Tuition Waiver Program, another bursary/scholarship/student loan, or through SAJE.
  • Recipients are required to provide proof of enrollment.

Please provide a statement of purpose telling the selection committee a little bit about yourself. Key areas to include are:*

  • passions, achievements and successes, including any volunteer, committee work or work experience
  • challenges or obstacles you’ve faced or overcame,
  • plans for the future including education and career plans (why did you pick the program you are going to),
    how a bursary would contribute to your success.
  • Anything else you want to share.

These are all suggestions; you do not have to include them all. The purpose of this statement is for the selection committee to get to know you, so focus on what really tells them about you. Submissions should ideally be a maximum of 2 pages- single spaced. A PDF version is recommended for added security, but it is not required.

Public recognition of bursary award recipients inspires donors to contribute to the bursary program, making it possible for the Belonging Network (BN) to continue to assist youth in achieving their dreams. It also encourages others to apply for bursaries.
If you are selected for a bursary award, the Belonging Network will publish your first name, city, and educational/skill-based endeavor, for the purpose of recognizing you as a bursary award recipient.
