Find community groups and drop-ins

Connecting with community is a great way to meet new people and get support. There are groups and drop-in centres all around the province.

What kinds of community groups are there?

So many. Here are some common ones:

Groups for everyone

Community Centres have free and low cost activities, and can be accessed through your city’s web page.

Couchsurfing.com connects locals with travellers. You can make friends from around the world at their free or low cost events.

Meetup has tons of local groups for people who share similar hobbies or interests. You can sign up and join as many groups as you like. Connect with members of your community for little to no cost.

YMCA & YWCA offer community programs, gym facilities, and volunteer opportunities. Membership costs, but you can get a discount through the Financial Assistance Program.

To apply for the Financial Assistance program you’ll need:

  • An application form from your local Y.
  • Your last year’s tax return.
  • Your past three pay stubs.
