The Learning Fund for Young Adults (LFYA) is a one-time grant of $1,500 that helps young people with BC care experience with MCFD/ICFSAs participate in a range of learning opportunities. To support flexibility and autonomy in decision-making, applicants are encouraged to use this grant for an educational, employment, training or life-skills program, course or activity based on their interests and goals.
Applications are now live on the MCFD website, as of September 9th, 2024.
You can apply for the LFYA by accessing the application form from the LFYA website and sending the completed application form by email to LFYA@gov.bc.ca. If you are eligible to receive the grant, you can expect to receive payment within approximately 4-6 weeks of applying.
Unsure if you are eligible? Fill out and submit the application form, and MCFD will confirm this for you – no other documentation is required.
To be eligible to receive the grant, you must be born on or after January 1, 2006, be at least 17 but under the age of 36, and have 12 cumulative months in one or more of the following qualifying legal statuses from birth to your 19th birthday:
- Interim Custody Order to the director (ICO)
- Temporary Custody Order to the director (TCO)
- Continuing Custody Order to the director (CCO)
- Under the guardianship of a director pursuant to the Infants Act
- Under the guardianship of the director of adoption pursuant to the Adoption Act
- Interim Custody Order with person other than a parent
- Temporary Custody Order with person other than a parent
- Youth Agreement (YAG)
