New tech partnership provides cell phones and laptops to youth from care

Saturday, April 8, 2017

Great news! A number of organizations across the province are in partnership to provide cell phones with prepaid data plans, laptops with support, and low-cost internet to youth in post-secondary programs.

1000 cell phones are being provided to youth in care, with first priority to youth with education plans under way. They come with a prepaid Telus rate plan with 3GB of data and nationwide unlimited talk and text. Telus will list the accounts in each youth's name so that they build positive credit to prepare for transitions out of care. Read about how to get on an AYA on our info page: Beyond bursaries: the AYA program.

369 youth will receive Lenovo laptops and support from IBM. They will support 19 and 20 year olds that will use them in post-secondary programs across the province.

MCFD demonstrates their commitment to youth in care in part by the contribution of over 700,000 dollars to AgedOut.com's development and ongoing maintenance.

Youth will be contacted if they are eligible. Check out the Telus page for more info.
